Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to be a positive influence on our parish’s high school youth?

We have lots of ways that you can share your talents!

Below is a list of committees that are looking for volunteers.

What is Youth Ministry?    Youth Ministry - fosters middle school and high school students’ connection to God and the Church through Confirmation preparation, peer ministry, service projects, camps and retreats, mission trips, Masses with Youth, and social events.

Planning Team    The Planning Team is a representative (the “head” of the team) from each of the below teams that meet together monthly to coordinate events, give updates on their teams, and plan for the future of the youth ministry program. Additional responsibilities of a leader would be to organize your team’s meetings and outings, be in contact with the other groups as needed (i.e. the social committee would talk with the communications committee to advertise their trip to Great America), and to work with the youth minister to help make each event successful. Please consider being on the Planning Team while you discern what committee you would like to join.

GodSpace Ministry    GodSpace Ministry plans an energetic and fun night for all high school students. It is held in the St. Catherine of Siena school gym for about an hour and a half once a month. Each night has a topic, a skit performed by the peer ministry team, an adult and/or teen witness talk, games, small group discussion, prayer, and food!

Peer Ministry Team    Peer Ministry Team (PMT) is a high school youth ministry program for students (sophomore-senior) interested in serving, leading, and supporting their peers as they develop a deeper experience of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. You would work with the youth minister training the team to lead outreach gatherings, be leaders to their peers and to plan activities for our youth ministry. What is the Time Commitment? PMT is a vital piece of the youth ministry program due the team working in so many aspects of the youth group to minister to their peers. It is a weekly commitment to meet with the PMT & youth minister, as well as, to attend the events at which the PMT will be ministering.

Social Team    Social Team plans fun, fun, fun outings! Going on field trips like Great America, to play paintball, go bowling, attend lock-ins, Ignite Chicago concert, etc. Help organize the logistics of social events (plan the date and time of events, prepare permission forms, purchase tickets, arrange transportation (adult volunteers or bus), etc.

Confirmation Leaders    Confirmation Small Group Leaders help prepare our high school students prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Lead (or co-lead) a small group of students, prepare the lessons from the materials provided, facilitate small group discussion, communicate youth ministry news to the small group, and take attendance at each session.

Liturgy    Work with our youth to be involved in our parish liturgies (i.e. lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers, members of the music groups). This could include the regular weekend masses or the special parish masses often held once a month before the Outreach.

Service Projects    Service Projects provide us with opportunities to live out our faith by serving others in our parish (helping with the religious education program or with Irish Fest, for example), in our community (helping at F.I.S.H. or Habitat for Humanity), and in the country (through Mission Trips).

Prayer Team

The Prayer Team is a group of adults that pray for the needs of our youth ministry program as well as the youth and adult volunteers involved. It will be up to the prayer team if they would like to meet together (and how often) and pray and/or to develop a prayer chain.

The current Prayer Team is called Moms In Touch. The name "Moms In Touch" comes from the national program that they use each week, but it is open to everyone wishing to pray for our youth.  The group currently meets on Friday mornings in the Chapel.  Please come and be a part of this ministry!  For more information, call the Youth Ministry Office.

Communications    Communications is a group who write articles for the parish bulletin and youth ministry website, update the youth ministry news in the narthex, and assist in preparing mailings for upcoming events. It will be important to be current on youth ministry events by talking with the youth minister and other team leaders and communicating those events through various media. Preparing mailings, making phone calls, sending emails, etc. Knowledge of Word and Publisher is helpful, but not required. Website experience also a plus, but certainly not mandatory.

Protecting God's Children    Every volunteer in the diocese who works with children must take the Protecting God's Children class. If you have not taken this class, please call the Youth Ministry Office to find out when and where the upcoming classes are being held. 847-426-2217
