The Newman Singers from Iowa City, IA will sing at all the masses on February 20 and 21. According to Fr. Virgil Funk, founder of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, “the Newman Singers are a musical group who reflect the very best in American spirituality for young adults.”
When
Pope John Paul II came to Colorado in 1993 for World Youth Day, a search went
out for the best youth choir in the United States. This was the group they chose to sing at the
Papal Mass. Fr. Richard Fragomeni,
professor of theology at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, says that
“The Newman Singers, under the able leadership of Joe Mattingly, are a rich
example of what a choir can be in the renewed liturgy, as it helps the assembly
to enter more deeply into full, active, and conscious participation.”
The Newman Singers travel extensively all over the United States, singing at churches, schools, and giving workshops on liturgical music and youth ministry. In addition to singing at all of the St. Catherine’s masses, they will present a free concert on Sunday afternoon (Feb 21) at 4pm.
Mass with Youth
Our next Youth Mass will be on Sunday, February 14th at 11:30 am.
We would like to get many of our youth to participate in the mass.
Examples of involvement include: Altar Server,
Music Minister, Lectors (readers), Greeter,
Eucharistic Ministers, and Ushers.

GodSpace

How does God fit into your life? GodSpace is a once a month get together for our high school students and their friends. Our High School Peer Ministry Team leads energetic games, perform skits, share talks, and guide small group discussions. It's a night of energy, fun, friends, and learning about God. We hope you will join us!

Other Things Happening. . . .
The Summer Mission Trip is July 11-18, 2010 to Betsy Layne, Kentucky.
The mission trip is through an organization called, Catholic Heart Work Camp (www.heartworkcamp.com). This is the same organization that St. Catherine's joined last summer with great results. CHWC has a very good reputation and has been serving community nationwide for over 17 years. It is a Catholic-based group that offers quality service camps, serves people in need, and spiritually enriches the lives of Workcamp participants. Worksites may include projects such as: painting, yard work, indoor/outdoor clean-up, home maintenance and repair on existing homes, neighborhood revitalization, helping with children at daycare centers/boys and girls clubs for low income families, helping at centers that distribute food to the needy, and, above all, restoring hope to those who have none.
